Not that there&#8217;s anything wrong with white paint &#8211; it&#8217;s just so standard that it has quite truthfully become a bit boring and sterile. To give your environment a splash of personality, why not try some real color?</p>
<p>We all know that color influences our moods. Unless your walls are white (or even off-white), your environment can actually dictate the kind of behavior that you want to experience. Now</p>
<p>we&#8217;re not suggesting that you engage in any psychological warfare or anything, but we are suggesting that you take some time in selecting the colors that you want your walls painted with because they can create a feeling &#8211; whether you want them to or not!</p>
<p>Generally, deep blues, greens and browns reinforce the feelings that we experience when we&#8217;re outdoors. These are the colors of nature, however black, white, gold, purples and/or rich reds give us a feeling of elegance or even royalty. Yellow, red, and orange colors can visually warm a room, while blue and dark purple can cool it down. Calming colors are green and blue while colors that excite us are red, orange, and yellow.</p>
<p>Decorative painting makes use of these feelings and combines them in such a way that they may even create multiple moods in one setting. Generally, decorative painting attempts to set an overall mood while the objects and/or appliances in a room complete the mood. For example, a room that&#8217;s painted blue may include light purple carpeting and dark green blinds. The blue walls tie the purple and green together because both purple and green contain a little blue inside of them: red + blue = purple; yellow + blue = green.</p>
<p>Complimentary colors are hues that blend in well with a main color because they contain a little of the main color. And our carpet and blinds example demonstrates the use of complimentary colors. Accent colors on the other hand are small bits of color that make a main color stand out. Back in our example room, a collection of small red pottery or a yellow lamp might appropriate serve as accent colors.</p>
<p>Decorative painting &#8211; whether it&#8217;s applied to half a wall, one wall, two walls, or all the walls of a room can certainly exploit this science of color theory and help to make a statement. The statement needn&#8217;t be bold &#8211; your environment can certainly quietly speak through muted colors and subtle variations. The important thing is that you&#8217;re aware of its power and use its power to your advantage.</p>

Most people who are knowledgeable about oil painting will agree that palette knives have for long been the traditional oil paint mixing tool. It is indeed a fact that palette knives are ideally suited for creating smooth, consistent mixtures of paint with the medium. At the same time, there is no denying that there is a host of oil painters who go beyond the palette with their knives, straight to the painting surface.</p>
<p>These knives are available in a variety of shapes and sizes and even made in plastic. As all of us are aware, for mixing purposes, just one traditional shape or size might do. But applying paint calls for a range of palette knives to choose from like choosing a set of brushes. When you are attempting to paint with palette knives, experiment with different shapes and sizes to see what produces the best effects. It is generally believed that smaller and thinner knives are ideal for lining, and the bigger ones are more suited for loading on the paint.</p>
<p>There are people who are fond of using stencils into their painting work = particularly when the subject demands a repetitive effect. There are ready-made stencils available in the market or you can make your own with the aid of a stencil kit. But you must take care to use the proper materials or else, the desired results cannot be achieved.</p>
<p>All professional painters will agree that stenciling is not a traditional oil painting method. This is one reason why there are hardly any tutorials. Professional will insist you should still keep in mind the fundamentals of the medium &#8211; what is generally known as ‘fat over lean’. It is obvious that very thin paint will bleed around the edges, so it might be necessary to wait until one of the thicker layers of your painting. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>“Washing” is a technique commonly used with watercolors. You start by wetting the area of the paper that will be covered with the wash. Then mix up enough pigment to fill the area and apply the pigment starting at the top and overlapping on any horizontal bands. The wash is then left to dry. Don’t work it as it will even itself out as it dries. The technique called “dropping in color” is a process where an additional color is added to a wet area of the painting which is then allowed to naturally bleed without any interference by the artist. The results are unpredictable with interesting color gradations.</p>
<p>“Glazing” is a technique similar to a wash, but instead of application to a wet surface a thin layer of pigment is applied to a dry surface over washes that already exist. It is used to adjust tone and color on a wash, and it is applied in layers until the desired affect is reached. Just be sure that each layer is dry before applying the next layer. Auroline, cobalt blue and permanent rose are good transparent pigments to glaze with. The “wet in wet” is a technique where you fill your brush with a very wet pigment that is then applied to a wet paper. It can be applied on top of existing washes that have dried. Just dampen these areas with a large brush. This technique provides soft subtle marks that are great for background areas. The “dry brush” is opposite to the “wet in wet” technique. The brush is filled with pigment with the use of minimal water and then it is dragged across the dry paper, producing a very crisp mark with a hard edge. It is an excellent technique for front work and points of interest. “Lifting off” is an interesting technique where the pigment is dissolved and lifted off after it has dried. Just wet the area you want to lift and then use a tissue to blot the pigment off. Reds, yellows, and blues can be more difficult to lift.</p>

The frame was a natural substitute for the architectural background of the fresco or secco mural. It is definitely the frame that gives to painting its known window effect, inviting us to peep into a different reality. In fact it is such a natural accompaniment to painting that the sudden absence of framing gave in itself to <a href="http://www.paintingu.com/" target="_blank"><strong>modern painting</strong></a> an important and surprising new dimension. The success of framing lies in its discretion. A frame well-chosen blends with the painting; it enhances, supports and serves the framed object and doesn&#8217;t steal the show. Bear in mind that our perception of the elaborateness of a frame is relative to the epoch; even the most exuberant frames in history were seldom exaggerated; they just adequately framed exuberant paintings. In regard to the object, the frame should always be subdued in design and color.</p>
<p>Period framing is always to prefer and in most cases the one that was initially conceived to go with the art. If your painting has lost its original frame, or if the latter is in an irreparable state, look for period replacement and do not frame against the style. A dark painting takes a dark frame, a light painting a light frame. A large frame should be less elaborated in ornament than a thin frame. The colour is best in some way assorted and will either reflect the basic tonal value or contrast with an appropriate counter-value. Ornament and elaboration is period dependent and should be considered in relation to the plastic contents of the painting. This sounds all simple and evident and yet many paintings are literally obliterated by insensitive framing. As the frame is an inherent part of traditional painting, we should train ourselves to be better aware of its effects on the art it should serve.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>All children love to draw or paint. It matters little whether the result is an exact copy of reality because at that very moment reality is in the mind of the artist. As they draw they are creators and each will stand back to admire what they have accomplished. It is not their desire to become an artist, they are there already! There is that small child in all of us – an artist inside that holds a perception of the world as expressed by our feelings and thoughts. It differs from everyone else; it is unique. But during the years of maturity we became self-conscious about our abilities. Unfortunately, we might have been criticized and decided that our talents lay somewhere else. Because it was met with some form of disapproval, we stopped being so free with our expressions.</p>
<p>My first recollection of drawing or painting was around the age of ten. By high school I spent my meager earnings on <a TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.paintingu.com/"><strong><em>oil paints</em></strong></a> and canvas. My passion was nature – animals in particular and that was my subject material at the time. Talent has two definitions&#8211;a natural ability or a developed skill. My parents couldn’t send me to art school, so I depended on the former. Often we look at things without really seeing them. After all, our eyes are merely lenses; they have no knowledge, no memories and no experiences. To see well we must open our minds as well as our eyes. Perhaps for that reason I like to paint the less-than-perfect subject material. A broken sea-shell has more character than any perfect specimen. Models, just short of perfect beauty leave a little ‘yet to be desired’. My choice for portraits would be in the facial structure itself, eye or skin color and character lines. It’s been said that there are two times when a boy can be called beautiful &#8212; at puberty, and when felled by the sword. I see in each of these a child-like perception and I am driven, at times, to put these images on canvas.</p>
